ART GALLERY SHOW

 I have been painting a lot to get ready for an upcoming gallery show.
It opens on July 3, 2014 at the Chaffey Community Art Museum    217 Lemon Ave   Ontario, CA

I had to pick a theme and work from there.  I had done this painting after coming back from Cuba and it had a couple of birds and a woman, so that became my theme for the rest of the series.  These are the paintings that will be in the show.





This crow one is a bit moody, but the day I painted it this is kind of how I was feeling.  If you are into Goth it is perfect for you.

The story behind this one is:  We all had to do a self portrait and I loved the skin tone as I painted this and before I knew it, though fully clothed while painting I was nude.  OH DEAR!  I wrapped a length of my signature silk chiffon around the body and there you have it.  I have titled this one.
"Good Grief, It's Grandma!"   No bird in this one just and old chick.

I will send out more details about the show later.  It's been great fun to paint this series, which actually has about 8 finished paintings in it.

Meanwhile the Photo and Quilts class continues.  I will post about it when I get more done on my quilt.

I'm Getting Ready for Class

This is a photo Sara took in Hawaii.  My grandson Jack and a friend checking out the wonders of the underwater world.  I want to use this photo and another one I got from Lisa (but haven't downloaded it yet.) for the photo quilt I will be making this session.  What photo(s) have you choosen?

I'm off for a week with family.  Hopefully to also take some great photos either for painting or making into quilted wall hangings.

Speaking of painting.  Some of my work is going to be in a gallery show in Ontario in July.  More information later.

Almost time for Class

Starting June 11 another "Photos and Quilts" class will begin.

It will be from 10 am to noon, as that is about all the time we can look at a computer screen; however I will stay beyond to give individual help where needed.

 These are a few examples of photo quilts I have done.  I have gathered more photos to do new ones during this session.

You can use old photos as well as new digital pictures.  My mother is the middle child in this one.

Be looking through your photos for one that tells a story and  we will go from there.
Every time I teach this class I try to simplify it more.  It is always fun to see what the students come up with.  Hope to see you there.  I know many of you have taken the class numerous times and I really appreciate your help and participation.

Im back again

 Every morning it was 'jump in the water and swim'  So much fun

 We sailed from one island to another.  3 adults, 6 kids and the captain.

 Off to the store for more food and water.

 Typical of the places we stopped for supplies.

Beautiful skies and water for me to paint.  I will post some of the little paintings I did soon.
I returned with a suitcase of dirty laundry.  Back to reality, but what great memories.

I've been painting

I have been working in a series.  "Women with Birds", don't know why that is what the series is, but

 I've been having fun.

 This is watercolor the rest of the paintings are acrylic.

 This moody little number is 16" X 20".  I am painting bigger.

 I love the way the baby birds came out.

 Reminder of my trip to Cuba

I am trying to get more complex and symbolic in the work.  Does she look pregnant?  She is supposed to it is afterall a stork.  I like the reflection in the water.

Since last we met

Here's what happened.  I had double dyed a piece of chiffon and it was very dark purple and black.  I thought it was ok so I made a jacket.  When it was finished there was a kumo knot in the back almost centered on my butt.  Not so good, it was high contrast light and dark.  I then folded the jacket in a triangle and put it onto a small diameter PVC pipe and wrapped it.  This morning I put it into a discharge solution thinking I would then over dye the results.  When I took it out of the discharge solution it looked like sunlight on the desert.  I am leaving it just as it is. The kumo knot is lighter and less obvious.  The piece that I tore off the bottom is the scarf piece hanging on the right side.  It is beautiful also.  It ain't over till you like it!

The next class will start on June 11 and will be "Photos on Quilts".

I am loving having time to paint, and will post some of the things I am painting in a few days.  I am painting bigger with acrylics.
